8 APIR Noisemakers This New Year

Each year, hundreds of Filipinos are treated in hospitals for burns, wounds and gun shots caused by firecrackers and indiscriminate firing of guns during New Year’s Eve. Making noise is a Filipino tradition and in some countries during this festive season to drive away bad lucks and spirits. The Department of Health has come out with a campaign and slogan to reduce injuries before, on and after New Year’s Day. This is called APIR – Aksyon: Paputok Injury Reduction.

To have a fun and noisy New Year without using firecrackers, here are 8 alternatives:
A Totoy blowing a torotot
Vuvuzela – becomes popular during the Football World Cup
1) Blow a vuvuzela or a torotot
2) Fire a bamboo cannon  – For safety, use the traditional calburo instead of gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid or thinner. Instead of directly blowing air into the hole of the cannon, use PVC or steel pipe/tube.

3) Drag cans – drive slowly though.

4) Bang pots and pans

5) Click a wooden gun

6) Turn on the stereo in full

7) Sing along a karaoke or videoke

8) shout to the max

8 Filipino Traditions on New Year’s Eve & Day

Aside from Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve is also an important occasion for Filipinos around the world. It is not only a night of lavish foods, street party, firecrackers and reunions, it is also a day of traditions and superstitious beliefs. Here are 8 of the most famous New Year’s Eve and Day:

1) Making a lot of noise of any kind – firecrackers, torotots, pots and pans, stereo, etc. – to drive away bad luck.

2) Preparing noodles and sticky native rice cakes – for long life and closer family ties

3) Wearing red or polka dots dresses – to be financially sufficient

4) Collecting 12 or 13 round fruits – for prosperity

5) Not sweeping out dirt/dust from the house – to maintain the good luck

6) Putting coins in pockets and money on wallets – to have money all year round

7) Jumping at exactly 12:00 midnight – to get taller

8) Making sure the rice container is full – to have food all year round

Whether these traditions and superstitious beliefs shall bring good life, good fortune and prosperity to the family or not, they continue to be practiced year in and year out.

The 8 Most-Talked About Bollywood Actors

Browsing over the world wide web and reading news and blogs, I gathered all the information I got and came out with 8 of the most-talked-about Bollywood actors. These actors are popular because of their hot bodies and physique, sexiness in terms of posture, smile and acting. But most of all, these Indian actors captivate most of their audience and followers. Some may disagree with my list but this is what I’ve got. The list is not my personal choice but the cumulative of those who write and like them.
Here are the 8 most-talked Bollywood actors, in alphabetical order:

1) Aamir Khan
2. Hrithik Roshan
3. Imran Khan
4. John Abraham
5. Ranbir Kapoor
6. Salman Khan
7. Shah Rukh Khan
8. Shahid Kapoor
I have noticed that this list is dominated by the Khan and Kapoor clan. Are they the founders of Indian cinema?
Do you agree with the list? If not, post your comment and the name of the actor that should be included.

8 Official MMFF 2011 Entries

On Christmas Day, December 25, 2011, moviegoers around Metro Manila and in other parts of the Philippines will watch nothing but Filipino movies. Sad to say,  most of these movies are only sequels of the previous entries. This proves that movie producers are focusing on the financial capabilities of the films and not on the festival’s theme.
